Lasha Abashidze appointed as the Director General of the Georgian Railways (JSC)

Lasha Abashidze has been appointed as the Director General and Chair of the Board of Directors of the Georgian Railways (JSC). He assumed the position on 7 May 2025.

From 2013 to 2014, he served as Head of the Administration of the President of Georgia. Between 2014 and 2015, he held the position of Governor of the Vake District in Tbilisi. From 2015 to 2017, Abashidze served as Vice-Mayor and First Deputy Mayor of Tbilisi.

His other professional experience includes serving as Business Development Director at a financial investment institute in London, United Kingdom, from 2010 to 2012, and as Head of Internal Audit at the Ministry of Education and Sciences of Georgia from 2012 to 2013.

Mr Abashidze also held a number of positions at JSC, including being Head of the Procurement Agency from 2007 to 2008, Deputy Director of Freight Transportation from 2008 to 2010, and Head of Operations from 2010 to 2011.

Mr Abashidze holds a Master of Public Administration degree from the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA), which he earned in 2005, and an LLM in International Law from Tbilisi State University, where he studied from 1999 to 2004.
