Incidents on the railways are unfortunately inevitable. They can also be complex and have more than one cause - from environmental unpredictability and human error to infrastructure or train failure. Therefore, it is critical to have comprehensive real-time data on network and rail operations.
Connecting data and communication streams helps to build an overview of the rail systems which lead to safer operations, more efficient maintenance, and more reliable services.
The International Railway Summit is therefore organising an webinar with an expert panel entitled ‘Sensors: how can railways prepare for incidents?‘ which will take place on 9 November 2022 at 11:00-12:30 CET. Registration is now open to this free event, subject to availability.
The discussion will focus on how digital technology can be effectively deployed as part of an efficient safety strategy. How can we predict, prepare for, and prevent incidents?
Frédéric Henon, Head of Operations & Safety at UIC will give an overview of both UIC and its member organisations’ best practices in this area, and look at the key priorities of UIC’s Safety Platform (including human and organisational factors, worker safety, and level crossings), as well as the importance of digitalisation.
The webinar is the first in the two-part series ‘Harnessing IoT for preventing and recovering from rail incidents’, organised in association with incident management experts Frequentis.
Christian Stimakovits, Domain Sales - Incident & Crisis Management at Frequentis, will be sharing digital solutions to facilitate making the best possible decision in incident management. The webinar will be chaired by Paolo Guglielminetti, Partner and Global Railways & Roads Leader, PwC.
Additional speakers will be announced soon, and are expected to include a national infrastructure manager and a passenger rail operator.
The live webinar audience will also be able to participate in the debate by asking the expert panel questions.
The webinar ‘Sensors: how can railways prepare for incidents?’ is free to attend, but places are limited. To register or to find out more, please visit https://www.irits.org/irswebinars/sensors-how-can-railways-prepare-for-incidents/.
