Project description

As breakthrough and integration of next-generation technologies such as big data, cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT), and artificial intelligence (AI) have become the core of a new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation, the digital era of has arrived. In recent years, changes in Asia-Pacific environment, economy, and transportation require challenges of rapid growth in demand for railway passenger and freight transportation, customized services, and ubiquitous transportation safety. When current railway infrastructures and rolling stocks come to limits, digital railway through technical revolution brings an unlimited future, increasing the efficiency of railway companies, optimizing passenger and freight transportation, and improving the safety and security of railways. Thus, the railway digitalization and intelligent railways are inevitable for the future world railways. In this context, some countries and organizations such as International Union of Railways (UIC), European Union (EU), Australia, Russia, Japan and etc have proposed strategies and plans of railway digital and intelligent development, formulated technical roadmaps and key tasks, and processed railway digitalization step by step.

Compared to other areas, lacking communication and overall planning, Asia-Pacific railway digitalization and intelligent railway strategies have developed imbalanced. Therefore, it is important and necessary to sort out current Asia-Pacific railway digitalization developments and summarize innovative applications over the world that can be learned, to promote communication on related technologies and experience, drive external cooperation on intelligent railway industry chain, and accelerate the overall Asia-Pacific railway development. Meanwhile, based on the internal and external environment of Asia-Pacific digital railways, an overall framework of the intelligent railway technology system is proposed to coordinate and deploy Asia-Paci
